Upon further investigation, Ms. Dolezal was asked if she is indeed an African American. Her reply was that she "identifies" as black. The reporters were all confused as they delve deeper and ask simply, "Haven't you misled people into thinking that you were black?" It just gets more confusing from there, so I will spare you any more details.
Watching this trend in our society has challenged me to wonder how many "transchristians" are in our society? We have people who have embraced the "culture" of church, religion, etc., but have they really, fully become followers of Christ? Is "identifying" as Christian enough in the Kingdom of God? The outrage of someone rising in the ranks of the NAACP through a false persona pales in comparison to what is at stake when we consider the people in our churches who may accept leadership roles, but never have truly heard God speak, received the Holy Spirit, and/or been born again.
This "trans" trend in our society holds a scary reality that people are trying to rewrite the laws of nature to live and thrive however they choose...void of truth.
The only "trans" trend that I see in scripture is found in Romans 12:2:
Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Those who do not know me may be quick to judge this post and accuse me of mocking those who are confused about their gender, race, etc. So I will close by asking that we once again resolve to pray for those who are deeply entangled in the tsunami of cultural sin in such a forceful wave that they do not know which way is up, who is the great God of creation, and the Son of God who died for the confused.
Wherever you find yourself today in that tsunami, please know that Jesus can give you peace. Ask him to calm the confusion today and bring peace to your storm.
